What does water-resistance in smartphones really mean?

Image
Now-a-days smartphone has become part of us. We take these gadgets everywhere. Whether it’s to bed or washroom, they are our constant companion to every location. But, as we like to take our best companions with us everywhere we have to remind ourselves that electronics don’t go well with water. In fact, as per IDC (International Data Corporation) report liquid damage is the second largest cause, i.e., 35 percent, of smartphone damage in the world. Needless to say companies tried to solve this problem and introduced water-resistant smartphones, with Sony spearheading the trend back in 2013 with Sony Xperia Z, the first water-resistant smartphone. Since then many companies have introduced water-resistant smartphones and followed the trend namely Samsung, Apple, Motorola and others. You must have noticed that I specifically referred “water-resistant” and not “water-proof” in the above paragraph. The reason being, there is a big difference between the two. ‘Water-proof’ mea

Things you need to know about Refurbished Smartphones in India

Prices of smartphones are going through the roof and this year Apple has touched the $1000 in US for iPhone X which sells for close to $1400/INR 89,000 here in India. Other brands are also not far behind for example Samsung’s latest flagship Note 8 sells for close to $1000/INR 67,900 here in India. As the smartphones prices increase year on year and technology keeps changing rapidly we now have a comparatively new segment of phones i.e. refurbished phones that are not completely new but not used as well. They sit somewhere in the middle. Refurbished phones, as some of you may know, are supposedly new phones whose seals are broken as they are returned by customer because of wrong product received or defect in the phone or because of any other reason. Also keep in mind that Open box/Unboxed phones also largely come under this category.  They may or may not have usage marks on them but I would say expect to have some usage marks (scratch or dent) on them. Our phones have been smart for a decade now (don't like saying it, but, thanks to iPhone for setting the trend) but now we have stepped into an era where everything is getting smart. Whether it's TV, refrigerator, shoes(yes we have these), led's, cars( talking about those self driving ones). You name it and it's most probably become smart by now or will be in the near future. One of the things which went smart and people went crazy over was watches. Smartwatches was introduced couple of years back, I would consider 2014 to be the golden year in which they got much hype Samsung Moto Apple all launched it in that year, and got everyone talking about them. But now that the hyped has settled let's discuss do we really need a smartwatch on the first place and if yes then also who they are for.. Lets start.. First of all to understand if they are necessary we need to understand what are smartwatches capable of.. So let's dive into what these tiny wrist computers

Fancy Features in today’s Smartphones that are barely useful

Smartphone industry is near stagnation. Everyone knows it. It was bound to happen considering the rate at which it was growing every year. Smartphones now a days don’t offer additional value or features as compared to their previous year counterparts. In contrast of today’s situation we saw huge improvements year on year 3-4 years back. Like when the Moto X came. It was such an amazing and different smartphone or when Oneplus and Xiaomi shook the market from top to bottom with their incredible bang for buck value. Earlier whenever a new smartphone was launched people were excited to see what new useful feature it has to offer. But now it’s all about upgrading the internals. Just switching from previous SoC to the latest one. Most companies and customer alike are happy to see a new chip in a new phone. That’s one of the reasons to upgrade to a new smartphone. But in race of this impractical upgradation companies have stuffed many useless features into the smartphone that is n

Nowadays market is flooded with so many phones that it has become quite difficult to narrow down your purchase decision to a single phone. Selecting a single phone is a pain. I would admit many times I want to buy more than one phone because they both seems so good and tempting. Well I have been asked a hundred times to recommend a best smartphone in certain price category. In this scenario everyone wants a straight forward answer which they can go and buy. But it’s not that easy as there is no “Best Smartphone” out there. It all depends on the features the person is looking for in a smartphone which makes some smartphone preferable more than others for them. You must be thinking what is this guy talking about of course there are smartphones which are considered as best , one can see infinite lists on the internet regarding the same, aren’t there?  Actually the short answer to this question is NO. Now here comes the long part .Well take a l
